Sea Fog Whiskey
After 10 years of making Thomas Tew Single Barrel Rum, The Newport Distilling Company has gone a new direction with their latest release: Sea Fog American Whiskey. Brent Ryan, co-founder and master distiller, has a passion for whiskey, so he made a small batch for his first run and its a cracker!
This spirit is inspired by the practices of distillers from the British Isles, blended with American traditions. “We combine the Scottish method of distilling ‘beer’ from malt with the American tradition of more aggressive oak aging in the continental climate of Rhode Island,” says Brent in a press release. Using pot stills and a beer made from pale and peated malt, the whiskey shares many of the qualities found in Scottish single malts. Aging for seven years occurs in freshly spent Kentucky bourbon barrels. This American single malt spirit exudes peat, smoke, vanilla, caramel and oak, the company reports. There are less than 150 cases available.
